Liz Fluehr is a
Nebraska artist with a passion for water media, especially transparent
watercolor. Among her favorite techniques is "painting the negative,"
in which Liz reveals each part of her subject by painting the area around
it, defining edges rather than filling shapes. This approach is a distinct
mindset which lends itself beautifully to the medium of watercolor because
of its transparency.
Liz is a former
architect who discovered painting as a creative outlet when she left
the practice of architecture to raise her family. Liz displays her work
in many shows and competitions, and is a frequent award winner. In 1999,
Nebraska Life magazine published Liz's watercolors on its cover and
in an article devoted to the story of her art. Watercolor Online and
Artshow.com have featured Liz's step-by-step floral demonstration on
their web sites.
Since 1994, Liz
has taught a series of popular watercolor classes and workshops, both
independently and through Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. She
is a past president of Bellevue Artists' Association, and winner of
the Golden Palette Award for her contribution to the fine arts in the
Bellevue area.
